Your artwork needs to be ready to display on our chain/hook hanging system. Most art frames available at Michael's, AC Moore, and others will do fine. Check out the following tips to make sure your art is safe and secure for hanging!

Kevin Cormier wonders, "what is a chain hanging system?"

Similar to a wire system, a chain system is fastened into a surface (in our case, the wall) and hangs about 4 feet long. It is made of steel chain links. Each chain can hang up to two pieces of art, and can support between 30-50 lbs of weight. For heavier pieces, we use multiple chains!

Art is secured to the chain system with steel "S" hooks, that are bent to fit our chain links. These "S" hooks then fit comfortably onto most frames. But for some, you may need a bit of extra help.

The following methods of adhering wire or hanging frames on our chain system have been proven to not be suitable in Origins Gallery.

Not only are "floating frames" or "clip frames" unable to hook into our Chain System, the exposed glass is dangerous for our staff and art handler volunteers. When in doubt, put a frame on it.

Attaching a wire to your frame?

Wires can help distribute the weight of the painting evenly on the chain system, especially if the frame doesn't have much wiggle room for our "S" hooks. We recommend attaching wires to "eye hooks" and actually screwing those into your frame.

Using Twine in place of wire is not a safe bet. Its more likely to fray over time against the hanging system, resulting in your piece falling and possibly becoming damaged.

Attaching twine or wire using gorilla glue, gorilla tape, or any type of tape or glue will also not be successful (we have tried!). Pieces using this method fall off the wall 99% of the time, we recommend being safe and securing your metal wire with eye screws into the actual frame.

**These methods are not suitable for use at Origins Gallery, and we have the right to refuse work if we deem it unsafe or unable to hang. We assume no responsibility for any type of hanging replacement or artwork damage if pieces fall**

Screw Eyes + Wire Placed level with each other, about 1/4-1/3 of the way from the top of the canvas or frame. Wire is then secured on both screw eyes that have already been screwed in. There should be a little bit of slack to your wire. There should not be wire visible when the art is attached to the hanging system. Some frames may require you to pre-drill holes for the screw eyes to prevent the frame material from splitting or becoming damaged. When in doubt about wire gauge or strength, choose the heavier duty wire.

Saw-tooth Hangers are thin wire brackets that come in a set with two small nails. While making sure that the nails won't poke through the canvas or framed work, nail the saw-tooth hanger into the frame slightly lower than the top. Larger pieces of art may require more than one hanger. If your work is pretty small or lightweight, you may only need one saw-tooth hanger placed in the center. Always make sure your hangers are level with one another, or the artwork will hang crooked!

For just $3.00 Origins can provide you with our hang ready service. Only available on artworks on stretched canvas or in proper frames. We install the eye screws, wire, or hangers necessary for your art to hang properly.
